Michael and Bob will contribute to the strategic development and direction of GS1 Ireland, which provides implementation support for its 2,900 member companies in the FMCG (Fast Moving Consumer Goods), Healthcare, Technology and, DIY sectors.  

Micheal Kelly is a former Deputy Secretary General of the department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform and Secretary General of the department of Health and Children.

Bob Semple brings a wealth of over 31 years’ experience providing a range of advisory and assurance services to clients.  More recently, Bob has focused much time and activity on supporting major public bodies and private companies in the area of corporate governance and risk management.

Commenting on the Board appointments, Jim Bracken, chief executive, GS1 Ireland, said: "We are delighted to have two such capable people in Michael and Bob.  Their contributions will be vital and invaluable to our organisation as we strive for greater adoption of GS1 standards in support of improving the efficiency of businesses and the Public Service."  
 
GS1 develops and promotes open standards for supply and demand chain management.  These standards, known as the GS1 System, are used by companies to help manage supply chains in an efficient and cost effective manner.  The GS1 system supports technologies such as bar coding and scanning, eBusiness messaging, data synchronisation and radio frequency identification (RFID).  

The potential for leveraging global standards to drive efficiency and effectiveness has never been greater, in particular in helping to deliver the SMART economy.
